Winter is coming to Chamonix. A few early snowfalls have already covered the high ridges, and the valley is slowly shifting back to its winter rhythm.

Quick Summary

Openings Chamonix ski resorts winter 2025/2026

  • Grands Montets: November 22
  • La Flégère: November 29
  • Les Houches (Prarion & Bellevue): December 13, with a preview weekend December 6–7
  • Le Brévent, Le Tour, Les Planards: December 13
  • Le Savoy & La Vormaine: December 20

Early Openings

As tradition goes, Les Grands Montets will open first. From November 22, 2025, the upper slopes above Argentière will welcome the season's earliest skiers. The altitude ensures good snow, and the terrain is demanding enough to suit confident intermediates and experts looking to find their legs again before winter fully settles in.

A week later, on November 29, La Flégère will open. It is a beautiful place to start the season, with open slopes and the morning sun facing Mont Blanc. For novices, it offers an excellent playground to regain control and rhythm. For complete beginners, lessons are possible here from opening day, though we recommend small groups of one or two people to ensure close attention on terrain that rewards focus and careful guidance.

The Valley Comes to Life

In Les Houches, the lifts at Prarion and Bellevue will open first for the weekend of December 6 and 7, offering a short early preview before continuous opening from December 13. These first two days often draw local families eager to make their first turns among the trees.

From December 13, most of the valley will be open. Le Brévent, with its reliable snow at 2000 metres and its view across to Mont Blanc, will once again link directly with La Flégère to form a wide and sunny playground for all levels. Le Tour will reopen the same weekend, welcoming intermediates and relaxed skiers to its long, easy blues and gentle off-piste bowls.

At the foot of Le Tour, La Vormaine will soon follow. Calm and sheltered, it remains the best spot for beginners in both skiing and snowboarding, with wide slopes and easy gradients. In the centre of Chamonix, Les Planards will also open on December 13, offering a convenient place for children and first lessons close to town. Finally, Le Savoy will complete the early-season picture on December 20, marking the moment when every corner of the valley is ready.

Booking Lessons

Private lessons with Skibex begin in the last week of November. Whether you are discovering skiing for the first time or preparing for a new challenge, our instructors will help you start the season smoothly and safely.

December and February are the busiest months, and it is always best to plan lessons early to have more choice of time and location.

The snowline is moving lower each day, the lifts are testing their cables, and soon the valley will be alive again with the sound of skis carving the first tracks of winter.
